Katherine: "Why aren't you?"
Well The
Vampire Diaries is finally back for its fifth season, so let’s get right into
it.
The episode titled 'I know what you did last summer' begins with the characters all happy and stuff. Elena and Damon have basically been making out all summer (what else are they going to do?) Matt and Rebekah are enjoying Europe and are also making out and with a little twist. They had a threesome but got robbed afterwards, man that sucks. Jeremy is covering for Bonnie since no one knows that she is dead so he has been sending emails pretending to be her. Oh and Katherine has been struggling being human. And how can I forget about Stefan. Well he hasn't really done much this summer except for just being trapped and drowning.
Fast forward to the end of summer and Jeremy and Elena are preparing for his first day back at school. And the story they came up with was he was so depressed about losing his parents and his aunt also a mention of his drug days. So all of this accumulated to him burning down his house and faking his death. On a side note Elena also leaves for college and Jeremy and Damon are now living together, the start of a great bromance.
So while Delena are all loved up Stefan is still drowning but thinking about turning his humanity off so that he doesn't feel anymore.
Matt and Rebekah return to Mystic Falls but as we all know, she is leaving for New Orleans to spend some quality time with her loving brothers. So they have one last kiss and she leaves. I can't be the only one that likes this couple?
Meanwhile back at college Elena and Caroline are embracing the atmosphere and we also see Bonnie with them for a second. They all have made it to college well sort of. So after some unpacking with the help of Liz aka Caroline's mum. They meet their new roommate Megan. Who Caroline immediately dislikes because it was supposed to be just her and Elena in that room. In fact she dislikes her so much she decides to drink some of her protein water. Turns out her protein water had Vervain in it. Bad move Caroline. So does this mean Megan knows about Vampires? Is she a hunter?
Jeremy is having a hard time at school; he was getting bullied by some kids so he went all Hunter on their butts and destroyed them. But all of that awesomeness came at a price. He got expelled oops.
Liz is back in Mystic Falls having a nice quiet drink when who should show up but Stefan I mean Silas. He tells her everything but since she doesn't have the info that he was he compelled her to forget. On a side note he drinks blood out of a cup not straight from the body. I mean I can understand why because it is so messy that way.
Katherine turns up at the Salvatore household seeking Damon's help because since she is human now she is extra paranoid and extra scared. So Damon offers to turn her but she doesn't want to be turned because no one has taken the cure before so if she dies she may never wake up.
Elena and Caroline have been invited to a party along with Megan but they can't get into the house because they haven't been invited in. So while waiting outside Elena gets a call from Megan and she is scared and running and asking for her help but before they can even move Megan is thrown out the window and lands in front of them. Poor Megan.
At the 'Grill' Damon is talking with Silas (who he thinks is Stefan) and he gets the info he wants from him. Silas is after Katherine for some unknown reason. As he is about to leave he bumps into Jeremy and he seems genuinely surprised to see him alive but when he touches Jeremy, Jeremy noticed his Hunter's mark feel weird claiming he only felt that when it was about Silas. So Jeremy claims that Silas is masquerading around and Stefan. On a side note Damon managed to compel the principal to give Jeremy a three day suspension.
Matt thinks he saw the woman he and Rebekah hooked up with in Europe so he follows her to a secluded alley and turns out it was her. Nadia stole his ring and she came all this way to return it but as she was about to return it a friend of hers who just so happens to be a witch does something to him.
Back at the Salvatore house Katherine is taking a bath until Silas comes in and tries to kill her but she gets away and Damon orders Jeremy to take her away while he deals with Silas. Silas then explains that Stefan is his doppelganger (did I spell that right?) then he asks him 'do you think Stefan would disappear all summer without saying a word?' He tells him to get Katherine back or he will never find Stefan. So he orders Jeremy to bring her back but Katherine has other ideas, she crashes the car and gets away. All while still being human. But Damon arrives and saves Jeremy and he seems to really care for him saying that it doesn't matter that Katherine got away he's just happy that he is ok.
Elena and Caroline return to their dorm room to only find it has been trashed well not exactly trashed just Megan's stuff. It has disappeared but Elena finds a picture of her dad with Megan. Yep she definitely knew something.
Caroline gets a voicemail from Tyler saying that he is deferring college for a year because the pack he is with really needs him. Like I said Klaroline all the way.
In the last scene Silas explains that over the summer he has consumed a lot of blood and he got stronger and now he can control a crowd of people. So he does, he compels the entire town square oh and he also killed Bonnie's father (with Bonnie watching) and wants the town to look for Katherine so nothing major right?
So this episode was actually better than I thought it would be. The season has got off to a good start so let’s see if it can continue the pace next week. As usual can't wait till next week.
